The Naturalist position provide outdoor education and recreation programming to youth and community of all ages. This position helps develop, plan, and implement outdoor programming.

Summary

The Naturalist position reports to the Recreation Supervisor in the Program office at Jefferson Memorial Forest.  The Naturalist develops, plans, and executes conservation education curriculum and educational programs which meet national and state standards. They schedule, supervise, and provide technical assistance and training for seasonal workers and volunteers. They also schedule, promote, and conduct environmental education and recreation programs to diverse audiences at Jefferson Memorial Forest as well as other Natural Areas across Louisville. They will be required to transport participants, equipment, and materials to program locations.

The preferred candidate will have a passion for environmental and outdoor programming and working with youth, have good communications skills, and be eager to contribute positively in a team environment.  Desirable experience includes canoeing/paddling, low and high teams course facilitation, biking, archery, and other outdoor recreation activities; first aid/CPR certification and training experience; knowledge of education standards. Preferred, but not required certifications: Environmental Education Certification, American Canoe Association (ACA) Level I tandem or above.
