Summary
Roper Mountain Science Center
Position - Natural Science Specialist
Location - RoperMountain ScienceCenter
Pay schedule – Full-time, Administrative/Supervisory Scale K, 245 day ($56,889-$95,899)
Daily Schedule – 8:30am – 5:00pm (Includes after-hours events and weekends as needed)
Major Responsibilities:
- Instruct daily, standards-based lessons for elementary and middle school students
- Create new and innovative standards-based, hands-on natural science lessons that engage students in the inquiry process.
- Plan, organize, and provide high quality science programs for students, teachers, and the public (summer exploration camps, Summer Adventure, after school programs, virtual, professional development, workshops, outreach, etc.).
- Extend the impact of RMSC lessons and programs through pre-visits, post-visits, virtually, and through new and innovative techniques.
- Care for, maintain and create indoor and outdoor exhibits, teaching spaces, technology, and materials.
- Creatively improve and expand programs and facilities through grants, donations, acquisitions and community partnerships
- Assist with animal care.
- Assist with the volunteer program.
- Manage budget and assist with purchasing.
- Manage part-time instructional staff and lab assistants.
- Follow procedures and policies of the district.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Degree in environmental science, natural science, or education, Master’s preferred;
- minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a formal or informal setting preferred;
- demonstrable knowledge of the natural history of the southeastern United States;
- proven skills required to create and maintain exhibits and care for animals;
- proven experience working with collaborative teams to effectively develop, market and deliver high-quality life science and natural history programs;
- strong commitment to student education, customer service and creative problem solving.
