Summary
Wild Whatcom seeks enthusiastic outdoor and environmental educators to work as Mentors across various programs. Mentors co-lead outings which include nature exploration, skills lessons covering a range of topics from plant identification to fire by friction, and service projects in parks and outdoor spaces in Whatcom County. Mentors are also responsible for communication with participant families, lesson preparation, and related clerical duties. Wild Whatcom is currently seeking 1-2 salaried Mentor positions starting in the Fall of 2023.
Position Description
Salaried positions are based on a contract average of 30 hrs per week with seasonal variability. In addition to accrued paid time off, salaried positions also received paid holidays. Positions include work on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and 3 weekdays. Please see our employment page for the full job description including a a sample schedule

Compensation Information
This position is a 41-week contract position beginning Aug 28, 2023 through June 9, 2024. Staff working school year contracts will also be offered summer contracts for our summer camps and other summer programs. The salary range for the 41 week contract is $20,295-$22,140 (hourly equivalent $16.50-18.00/hr); salary and hours will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.
Wild Whatcom does not currently offer traditional health care benefits (though we are working toward that). However, there are a variety of other benefits offered to staff, such as paid professional development opportunities/training, subsidized wilderness medicine certifications, gear stipends, and annual Discover passes.
