Summary
The LoonWatch Director will ensure the successful operation of LoonWatch, a program dedicated to focusing on protection of common loons and their aquatic habitats through education, monitoring, and research. The primary focus area of LoonWatch is Wisconsin; however, the education and research activities extend to the Upper Great Lakes region. LoonWatch supports North American conservation efforts by working with loon conservation organizations across the United States and Canada.
The LoonWatch Director coordinates a handful of Loon education, research and citizen science monitoring programs. These include the Annual Lakes Monitoring Program, Speakers Bureau Presentations, Loon Appreciation Week and Poster mailings,. Loon education addresses important issues such as reduction in lead fishing equipment, climate change, and lake habitat protection. The Director supports promotion of lake stewardship, natural resource conservation and education in the North Country by integrating citizens and students into the processes of scientific investigation and natural resource management.
