Summary
This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in building capacity and expanding their services that many communities rely on. LEAP members deliver direct service to local youth in the form of PreK-12 STEAM educational programming. LEAP supports members in their path to educational and career attainment through direct service, on-going trainings, and professional development opportunities offered during the service year. VFFC increases access and availability of locally produced food in the Rutland Region through education, expanding markets and market access, aggregation, and distribution of locally produced and value added agricultural products. Our goals for the Americorps position are to strengthen our community involvement and distribution of Farmacy, food as medicine shares in the community, provide greater food education, and improve access to our Online Market platforms.
Essential Functions of Position:
Attend meetings with healthcare providers, farmers, care coordinators or other local
committees addressing food justice, food access and preventative health care in the
region.
Serve with staff to implement evaluation tools for participants and coordinate member
volunteering
Serve with the director to plan and implement farm to table fundraiser dinners in the
summer and fall which includes the possibility of evening hours
Serve with community volunteers to bag produce on Wednesday mornings, late June -
mid September
Marginal Functions:
Make phone calls to possible members confirming enrollment in the program
Make follow-up phone calls during the week for no-show pick-ups and help coordinate
drop-offs
Help to create weekly newsletters that incorporate nutrition education and recipes for
members
Assist nutrition and food educators to operate demonstrations on pick-up days as well
as art projects during pick-ups
Desired Qualifications:
Responsibly drive and maneuver VFFC refrigerated delivery van for Farmacy and bulk
distributions
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Computer skills required including excel and powerpoint
Personal transportation to the Vermont Farmers Food Center in Rutland
Compensation Information
- Living Allowance: $11,700
- Education award upon completion of service: $3,447.50
