An ideal Lifelong Learning Coordinator will have a passion for life long education, creative ideas for programming, flexibility with changing plans, and experience with teaching adult and multigenerational classes. The position will include creating, implementing, teaching, and arranging educational programs.

Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Founded in 1989, Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a natural beauty situated on an impressive 80 acres nestled between the Cape Fear River and Cross Creek just two miles from downtown Fayetteville. Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that connects everyone to nature. The Garden offers cultural events to inspire and excite and educational activities for school groups, children, families, and adults. 

Position Summary

The coordinator will teach some lifelong learning classes themselves and arrange other classes led by Garden staff and guest instructors. We anticipate the Lifelong Learning program offering a variety of educational experiences including tours, workshops, wellness opportunities, guest speakers, and special events. As part of our Education team, the Coordinator will also help with field trips and camps for children during our busy season. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities Summary

The Garden is looking for someone who can comfortably teach and set-up a variety of classes, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and with a close-knit team. Excellent computer, time management, organization, and planning skills will be necessary. A variety of teaching techniques is important for working with small and large groups, in indoor and outdoor settings, multigenerational audiences, and diverse students. This position will also develop self-guided educational materials and recruit and train Education and docent volunteers. 

Experience and Knowledge Summary 

Cape Fear Botanical Garden is looking for someone with experience creating and implementing programs for adult and multigenerational learners. Excellent communication skills are a must! A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience with horticultural/gardening programming, nature education, wellness classes, and/or nature art strongly recommended. Personal transportation is required to conduct programs off-site and shop for program supplies.

Expected Hiring Rate: $15-17 an hour
