As Zoo School Lead Teacher, you are primarily responsible for teaching and assisting at the Will Smith Zoo School, a nature-based preschool for children ages 3-5. You may also facilitate programs with parents and other education audiences when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LEAD TEACHER

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of San Antonio Zoo and Will Smith Zoo School
  • Commitment to the importance of nature play within the field of early childhood education
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and punctual attendance to ensure quality continuity
  • Knowledge of, aptitude for, and enthusiasm for learning basic natural history/ecology concepts
  • Demonstrated verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to be a creative and flexible team leader.
  • Experience and comfort in nature/working outdoors
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to interact and work effectively and cooperatively with children, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to relate effectively and engagingly with the public, especially very young children and their parents
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with desktop publishing and general computer skills
  • Bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education
  • At least two years of experience in the facilitation/management of play and preschool environments for children 3-5
