Summary
Our Giving Garden is a three-acre, non profit educational farm located 20 minutes outside Atlanta, and includes a garden, animal program and greenspace for nature based education and play. Our program emphasizes hands-on learning through experiences with animals, plants and creativity.
We are looking for flexible, dependable and passionate educators to fill the position of Lead Counselor for our Summer Camp programs May 30- July 30, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Our Giving Garden Camp is an outdoor program, and focuses on free play, hands on learning about nature, sustainability and agriculture through our 3 acre site and farm animals. Daily schedule consists of a planned craft/activity, free play, exploration, snack and lunch.
Background check required.
Lead Camp Educators are expected to plan their own camp lessons and activities based on a topic or theme within the general camp schedule set by the garden; curriculum should be able to be scaled to a wide range of ages and learning levels, and will need to be approved by program manager in advance. Some weeks may have a set activity plan from Program Manager. Lead Camp Educators will be provided a budget for supplies, and will be in charge of preparing all supplies for classes.
We are seeking Lead counselors that have a passion for nature play and experience in one or more of the following subjects:
- Art
- Ecology
- Sustainability
- Agriculture
Preferred Qualifications:
- Dependable self-starter that is flexible and open to changes
- Experience with working with children of all ages
- Experience with outdoor education and ability to be outdoors for hours at a time
Requirements:
- CPR certified
- First Aid certified
- Background Check
Responsibilities:
- Check in and check out process for campers
- A passion for engaging children to learn in alternative, hands on, and experiential ways
- Communicating openly with parents and new families in daily activities
- Open communication with Our Giving Garden staff
- Planning curriculum and hands on learning activities for a range of ages. Emphasis on using natural, sustainable materials to inspire creativity, learning about art, language, communication, ecology and environmental stewardship.
- Teaching up to 20 children ages of 3 years old to 11 years old with assistant summer camp educators
- Responsible for all set up, preparation, and leading of activities
- Delegating and sharing daily responsibilities with assistant(s)
- Creating a safe and positive learning environment that uses positive reinforcement and redirection
- Ensuring all garden property is respected and not being misused or broken

Compensation Information
Lead Camp Staff are paid $18/hour
