Does scurrying with a squirrely crew of mud-loving, sorrel-munching preschoolers sound like a fulfilling way to spend your days? Do you wonder if crayfish dream? If clouds sing loud or softly? If campfires know how much you love them? Can you help a 3-yr-old search for a fairy nest? If so, you belong here!

Summary

Berkeley Forest School is seeking a Lead Teacher to join our creekside class"room" for our 2023-2024 school year which begins August 7th 2023. (Opportunity to start earlier, as well.) We are an all outdoors community-run independent school emphasizing environmental and social justice and support the whole-child learning and development no matter a child's abilities. We are rooted in decolonized practices and curriculum, primarily utilizing project-based learning experiences.

Together we will learn and practice what it means to be in community, with compassion and respect for ourselves, each other, and our non-human forest friends. We emphasize hands-on whole-body emergent learning. Teachers notice and track the child's interests and inspiration, offering them tools (literally and figuratively) to support their growth and learning.

Outside of class hours we have staff meetings bi-weekly, curriculum planning collaborative meetings, and email communication. Lead teachers also document the children's learning, and write a weekly newsletter for the families of their class. We engage in collaborative curriculum planning, tracking the children's learning over the year, and communication with parents including progress reports and conducting parent teacher conferences.
