Catkins Nature School is a relationship-based, mixed-age learning community rooted in seasonal rhythms, place-based education. We operate outside the traditional K–12 model in the beautiful John H. Dover Park, centering childhood, wonder, stewardship, and strong family partnerships.

Our teachers are called Guides because they walk alongside children — cultivating curiosity, resilience, literacy, numeracy, and ecological belonging through lived experience.

Summary

The Teacher/Guide at Catkins Nature School is a grounded, observant educator who facilitates learning through a place-based, phenological curriculum rooted in the Environmental Kinship Guide (EKG). This role blends early childhood pedagogy with outdoor leadership, cultivating children’s academic growth, social-emotional development, and deep relationship with the land.

The Teacher/Guide designs and implements seasonal learning experiences aligned with Montana state standards while honoring the rhythms of fall, winter, and spring. Through inquiry, storytelling, play, and hands-on exploration, they guide mixed-age learners in developing literacy, numeracy, ecological awareness, and practical life skills within the natural environment.

This position requires strong classroom leadership, thoughtful risk management in outdoor settings, and the ability to build meaningful partnerships with families. The Teacher/Guide models curiosity, resilience, and stewardship—supporting children in becoming capable, compassionate members of their community and the living ecosystem around them.

Compensation Information

Catkins Nature School is a small but growing community.  We are hoping to find like-minded leaders to join our team.  Compensation begins at $17 based on experience and education.
