Kindergarten Teacher at Nature-Based Preschool and K

Sprout House is seeking an experienced Kindergarten/elementary school teacher who would enjoy teaching kindergarten inside a classroom as well as 2+ hours of outdoor guided play and scientific investigation.

Experience Required:

• Experience teaching Kindergarten or Elementary School
• Experience in outdoor education or a desire to learn alongside our Head Teacher
• Ability to engage and motivate students through choice and differentiation
• Education in Child Development

While our Kindergarten students learn from standard reading and math curriculum, approximately two hours are spent outside daily. Using our adjacent park and our outdoor classroom, teachers ensure that exploration  of the natural world is a major spark for science and multidisciplinary instruction year-round. Additionally, our prime location in downtown Chatham allows easy access to walking field trips.  For example, the library, flower shop, train station, and fire department all become extended classrooms. Sprout House also prides itself on teaching through process art, baking, music and singing, and gardening activities. A successful candidate will be eager to design and participate in all such activities.

Full capacity for our Kindergarten classroom is 8 students. Students typically accompany our "Rising 5s" class of up to 8 students and our Head Teacher for outdoor science and play activities. These activities include investigations of the natural environment with discussions about local animals and insects, native and non-native plants, fungi as well as the physics of balls, hoops, hill rolling, sledding, ice/rain play and more.
