Assists in the implementation of education programs, workshops and activities for all ages at the Environmental Discovery Center.

Summary

Assists in the implementation of education programs, workshops and activities for all ages at the Environmental Discovery Center (EDC) at Lynches River County Park.  Must be mentally and physically capable of demonstrating excellent written and verbal skills, including public speaking and some technical writing while applying common sense, coherence and logic skills; be comfortable with live animal care and handling and be able to work outside under normal weather conditions.  Reports to the Environmental Discovery Center Supervisor.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Greets groups and the general public visiting the EDC; disseminates information about park facilities and local areas of interest to park visitors.
  • Assists visitors with park reservations for overnight accommodations, canoes and kayaks, rental facilities, etc.
  • Responsible for handling, feeding, and general care and maintenance of the EDC’s live animal collection and displays.
  • Prepares clear and comprehensive oral and written reports when necessary; maintains organized data and correspondence pertaining to programs; and, demonstrates effective and reliable work habits.
  • Trains oneself in the field of environmental education by utilizing resources and opportunities as they arise to keep abreast of current developments in the field.
  • Represents the Environmental Discovery Center and Lynches River County Park at community festivals and events.
  • Performs light housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of the EDC; assists with program set-up and clean-up.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask while utilizing efficient time management skills
  • Position requires standing, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting medium to heavy objects.   Must be able to withstand extreme hear, changing temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Collects and accounts for daily revenue.  Accurately completes and submits all required receipts and reports.
  • Properly secures the building upon opening and closing.
  • Works as needed on holidays, weekdays, weekend and/or evenings.
  • Performs all related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Requires, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.  Experience in the field of Environmental Education/Interpretation desired.  Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and computer operations.  Requires a valid driver’s license.  Must possess, or be able to obtain, First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of start of employment.
