The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18–25) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the corpsmember will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

Summary

This is a full-time commitment for a year-long AmeriCorps service term. The member will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans.
 
Term dates and schedule:

Term: January–December 2023

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm typical. Some evenings or weekends may be required.  

Location: Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.

Positions:

Agriculture and Water Corpsmember: The AmeriCorps Agriculture and Water Outreach Specialist  serves alongside natural resource professionals with the Cottonwood and other area Soil and Water Conservation Districts  supporting the work of The Minnesota Department of Agriculture with local implementation of  the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP), learning hands-on skills in assessing and managing soil and water resources. Located in Windom, MN.

Communications Outreach Specialist: The AmeriCorps Communications Outreach Specialist position is based at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Saint Paul, Minn. The purpose of the Communications Outreach Specialist is to assist with development and improvement of the DNR’s Scientific and Natural Areas (SNA) Program and Native Prairie Bank (NPB) Outreach Initiatives relating to communications, primarily social media and email marketing. Content creation may include writing/editing, photography, video, and audio. Evaluation and analysis of communication campaigns will be required.

Fort Snelling Visitor Services Specialist: The AmeriCorps Fort Snelling State Park Visitor Services Specialist position is based at Fort Snelling State Park, 101 Snelling Lake Road, St. Paul, MN 55111.  The purpose of this position is to increase general awareness of Minnesota’s system of state parks and trails, assist with implementing successful trip planning for a wide spectrum of recreation opportunities, greet and orient park visitors, engage citizens from under-represented communities, assist park naturalist in programming and administrative tasks, train volunteers to complete projects, and increase contacts with new audiences to connect them to the outdoors. 

Invasive Plant Management Specialist: The AmeriCorps Invasive Plant Management Specialists  placed with the National Park Service is be based at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway headquarters in St. Croix Falls, WI. The purpose of Invasive plant Management Specialists support high park priority invasive plant management and vegetation restoration practices in the Great Lakes Invasive Plant Management Team Network of National Parks.  Specialists will assist with manual and chemical plant control, native plant seeding/planting, equipment maintenance, data collection, data QAQC, report writing, identification of native and nonnative plants, outreach and education, and management planning.  Specialists must be able to safely operate power and hand tools, chainsaws, small equipment, and trucks pulling trailers.  Located in St. Croix Falls, WI.

Partnership and Volunteer Services Specialist: The AmeriCorps Partnership and Volunteer Services Specialist position  is based at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in St. Paul.  The purpose of the Partnership and Volunteer Services Specialist position will provide vital support and leadership to the Division’s visitor services and outreach section. The position will work directly with the Partnership Development Consultant and will collaborate frequently with interpretive naturalists, park and trail supervisors and staff, and external partners. The Division’s volunteer program is one of the largest in the Department, and it needs additional energy, ideas, and capacity to serve its dedicated volunteers effectively. The volunteer program encompasses activities like campground hosting, habitat restoration, naturalist program help, athletic events in the parks/trails, and more.

Off Highway Vehicle Specialist: The AmeriCorps Off Highway Vehicle Specialist is based at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in St. Paul, Minn.  The purpose of this position is to strategize, support, and implement ways to strengthen a sustainable and fun Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) system in Minnesota. Off Highway Vehicles include All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), Off Highway Motorcycles (OHMs) and Off Road Vehicles (ORVs or 4x4s).

Planning & Development Specialist: The AmeriCorps Planning & Development Specialist is based at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Saint Paul, Minn. The purpose of this position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Parks and Trails (PAT) Planning Unit.  Under the direct guidance of a MN DNR project advisor, this position will primarily serve to assist DNR staff with the development of strategic plans, program plans, system plans, and unit plans (state park, state recreation area, and state trail), environmental review documents, legislative studies, research, and evaluation. This position will also provide a support role to the Acquisition and Development Unit, providing GIS (geographic information system) and GPS (global positioning system) support to park and trail development projects and cultural resource field work, database management for asset management, and preparing guidance for development projects across the state parks and trails system.

Remote Sensing Field Technician Specialist:  The AmeriCorps Remote Sensing Field Technician Specialist position is a based at the Monarch Joint Venture in Saint Paul, Minn. The purpose of the position is to assist with surveying Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands across the Midwest using drones to quantify density of milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants using both aerial imagery and field-based methods. Specialist will organize and prepare images as needed to process via a machine learning algorithm. The Specialist will support all aspects of the project including obtaining a commercial drone pilot’s license (if not already licensed) contacting landowners, managing field logistics and traveling to field sites to conduct surveys across at least 5 Midwest states, supporting communication with partners and others about this project and technology, managing data, and supporting data analysis and report writing.

  • Ability to work with children and youth in outdoor settings
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats
  • Creative thinking and problem solving
  • College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Requirements:

  • 18-25 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.
  • Must pass the National Sex Offender Public Registry and criminal history check. “Pass” is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPR and no history of violent offenses on the criminal history check.
  • Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years).
