Join the team at Morris County Park Commission as a Horticulture Education Assistant at Frelinghuysen Arboretum and help inspire a love of plants, gardens, and nature in visitors of all ages. This hands-on role supports educational programs, workshops, garden tours, and seasonal events while working alongside knowledgeable horticulture staff and volunteers. Assist with plant care, public outreach, and creating engaging learning experiences in one of New Jersey’s most beautiful public gardens. Ideal for plant enthusiasts, educators, and lifelong learners, this position offers the opportunity to grow horticultural knowledge, connect with the community, and make a meaningful impact through environmental education.

Summary

Lead/Assist with a wide variety of horticultural programming including week-longsummer camp sessions, school field trips, scout programs, horticultural therapy, andgardening-based series, among other programs. This includes all aspects ofprogramming including creating programs, set up, supervision, clean up, adjustingactivities to the needs of individual participants, maintaining discipline, evaluation, andcommunication with Senior Horticultural Program Specialist and the Superintendent ofHorticulture
•Work effectively with parents of program participants, projecting a knowledgeable,confident, and positive image.
•Help plant and maintain the education gardens.
•Provide fun, educational, and safe experiences for visitors. Work with adult and teenvolunteers and seasonal horticultural educators.
•Assist with enhancing current curriculum and developing new lessons on varioushorticultural themes.
•Assist in creating a monthly program calendar.
•Assist in marketing by sending out emails and taking photographs for social media.

Compensation Information

$18 per hour for 28- hour work week.
