Summary
2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve (HRNR) and 50 years of raptor research and education! Hawk Ridge is well known as one of the premier fall bird migration sites in North America to observe large numbers of birds of great diversity. Fall bird migration traineeships are offered for those seeking hands-on professional experience to assist them in their pursuit of higher-level education and/or a career in bird research or education.
The Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory (HRBO) is a non-profit organization that manages and conducts bird research and education at the nature reserve. The mission of HRBO is to protect birds of prey and other migratory birds in the western Lake Superior region through research, education, and stewardship.
As part of its educational and conservation goals, HRBO is offering 6 traineeships for the fall 2022 season for those seeking hands-on professional experience to assist them in their pursuit of higher-level education and/or career in a field consistent with HRBO’s mission. Training will focus on migratory birds found at Hawk Ridge. Training will be conducted by our managers with much knowledge and expertise in the field. This is a great experiential opportunity for trainees to learn from our best! Trainees may also complete a special project pertaining to their focus area that will be developed with their training supervisor.
Trainees will be provided a stipend of $175 per week and lodging. In order to apply, trainees must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and personal vehicle for transportation.
We are currently offering 2 Bird Banding Traineeship positions, 2 Environmental Education Traineeship positions, and 2 Bird Migration Count Traineeship positions.
