Our Garden Manager oversees our sustainable small urban farm which grows produce, herbs and flowers in support of our mission. Summary

At HYG, we grow and distribute fresh produce to our neighbors, build and support backyard Family Gardens, provide nature- and nutrition-based education to over 500 Hilltop students in grades preschool through grade 8, offer after school gardening clubs for neighborhood children, employ and mentor Westside teenagers and provide a peaceful and welcoming community gathering space in a challenged neighborhood.  Our doors are literally always open.  

Garden Manager

Our Garden Manager position is a year-round, 30-hour/week position with full time benefits.  This position oversees all aspects of garden planning, design, installation and maintenance with a focus on organic and no-till methods. The position maintains all garden site components including high tunnel, irrigation, electricity, and built structures. The Manager maintains records of plantings, designs and harvest, prepares and posts weekly task and harvest lists for volunteers and other staff, and acts as the staff liaison for gardener networks in the area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of and formal experience with agriculture, minimum of 3 years.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of organic and no-till methods.
  • A passion for growing community and impacting others.
  • Self-directed and flexible work style.
  • Leadership abilities and strong communication skills. 
  • Desire to continuously develop skills and seek out new opportunities to help grow the organization’s impact.
  • Ability to positively relate to children and mentor teens.
  • Spanish fluency a plus

Compensation Information

STARTING PAY RATE: $19 - $22/hour (depending upon qualifications) plus paid time off, annual holiday shutdown, 90% paid healthcare coverage and other benefits.
