The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands is hiring 3 seasonal Fuels Crew Members & a Crew Lead based in Moab, Utah. This is a demanding but rewarding position that will allow you to work throughout southeastern Utah. Work will primarily occur in the Wildland Urban Interface protecting houses and property as well as restoring riparian and upland habitat. This position will start in March and will run for approximately 9 months. A typical work week will consist of 4 ten-hour days.

Summary

The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands is hiring 3 seasonal Fuels Crew Members & a Crew Lead based in Moab, Utah. This is a demanding but rewarding position that will allow you to work throughout southeastern Utah. Work will primarily occur in the Wildland Urban Interface protecting houses and property as well as restoring riparian and upland habitat. This position will start in March and will run for approximately 9 months.  A typical work week will consist of 4 ten-hour days. Certain weeks may be 8 days on 6 days off depending on project need.  Pay is $17-18.50 per hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Chainsawing with a 4 person crew.
  • Safely running a wood chipper.
  • Camping up to 8 days at a time.
  • Applying herbicide.
  • Supervising volunteer/contract saw crews.
  • Field mapping of worksites.
  • Towing heavy trailers and equipment

 

Requirements

  • Communicate professionally with landowners and coworkers.
  • Complete strenuous work in a variety of landscapes and elements
  • Can work and camp in a remote area for up to 8 days.
  • Ability to safely drive work trucks with a valid Driver’s License
  • Able to work in a small crew and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

Fuels Crew members will get red carded and have the opportunity to work in wildland fire suppression, however, a vast majority of time will be spent doing fuels reduction/removal work. Suppression activities may include, multiple weeks on a handcrew on large fires around the country, initial attack with fire wardens, prescribed fire, and/or pile burning
