Summary

Seeking an energetic and nurturing teacher for our outdoor based preschool and elementary program serving children 18 months through 10 years old. Based on the educational philosophy of Reggio Emilia, our school is an evocative learning environment that connects with the wonder and joy of our natural world. We foster curiosity to develop a love of learning rooted in questions, listening, observation, synthesis and connection. By participating in outdoor, experiential learning, students become active participants in their educational journey, learning with agency, interconnectedness, and responsibility to their greater community. Position will work in a co-teaching model in a team of three with children two through three years old.

After 21 years of a successful early childhood program we pivoted our school to a forest based model due to the COVID crises in August 2020 and fell in love with this philosophy and methodology of teaching and learning.

Candidates should have:

  • A keen understanding of child development, knowledge of social constructivism and/or Reggio approach and/or willing to learn. Must have strong writing and communication skills; ability to document children's learning
  • Be comfortable navigating outdoor exploration and a variety of weather with children. Appreciation of nature and the ability to integrate into the curriculum.
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about ideas, materials and spaces
  • A warm, nurturing character that easily connects to children and their families.
  • Strong classroom (forest) management skills.
  • Flexible, able to think and pivot lessons depending on the weather
  • Outstanding communication skills with caregivers, colleagues and administrators
  • Degree in education and/or related experience is preferred
