Summary
Seeking an assistant educator willing to work collaboratively in an alternative outdoor program of early childhood education.
Interest in some of the following topics- project based learning, place based learning, sustainability, and emergent curriculum is desired. Familiarity with trauma informed education and a nurturing whole child approach to education.
Ideal forest school teachers love to play, create, explore and share their excitement and wonder with our students.
Forest camp spring sessions weeks of March 13, March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17. Hours are 8:45am-2:30pm
Candidates should exhibit flexibility and attentiveness to children’s needs and interests. Must be willing to work outside in the rain and cold, teachers should dress accordingly to stay warm and dry. We do cancel or move class to a museum in severe weather conditions.
Ideal candidates will have skills and ability to market programs and connect our school community with organizations that complement our mission.
Reliable transportation required, ideal candidates can work in both our SF and Berkeley locations as needed to fully staff our growing programs.

You will be working with another teacher and/or Director and 5-12 children ages 3-8 years. We meet in several parks near Berkeley and in SF. Our forest school is 100% outdoors and is a nature immersion model. Daily schedule often consists of play, snack, hike, nature art, picnic lunch, hike, and play games! Along the way the teachers use their knowledge of child development and the natural world to take advantage of teachable moments and follow the children's needs and interests.
Tasks include-
supervision of children, guidance with social skills, facilitation of games, songs, crafts, etc
respectful and age appropriate conflict negotiation, etc.
This is a great job for those with background and interest in art, science, experiential or alternative learning and or child development.
