Summary
Summary of Position
The Food Services Supervisor provides leadership within the kitchen environment, supports the Chef/Manager and plays a key role in maintaining the exceptional standard of meal service that the Environmental Learning Center is known for. This role models professionalism and standards established by the Chef/Manager to other kitchen staff during work shifts and assists in training and directing kitchen staff during the peak season. This person collaborates frequently with the Chef/Manager to shape the kitchen environment and to offer suggestions for improving daily operations. The Food Services Supervisor also assists in developing and implementing the Foodshed Program, the Institute’s initiative to incorporate local, organic products in the operation of the Learning Center.

Compensation Information
Pay rate is $22.00 - $25.00/hour. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position subject to a possible winter furlough (unpaid) of one to two months.
Bonus - North Cascades Institute is pleased to offer bonuses for this Food Services Supervisor position. An employee who successfully works for one month of employment from their start date will be eligible for a $500 Sign On Bonus. If the employee works until the end of Fall 2023 programming on December 15, 2023, they will be eligible for a $1500 Season Completion Bonus.
We offer a competitive compensation package. Benefits include the following:
- Sick Leave – 8 hours per month
- Vacation Leave – 10 days per year one. Positions with furloughs may accrue less than 10 days
- Holiday Leave – 12 days maximum per year
- Service Days – 2 days per year
- Other paid time-off such as family leave, pregnancy leave, bereavement leave, etc.
- Medical/dental insurance, long and short-term disability insurance, tax-deferred annuity and contribution retirement plan
- Yearly stipend to participate in Institute programs.
Benefits are prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week.
Housing
Good quality housing is available through the Institute for $350/month, considerably below market rates. Private rooms in shared houses are sometimes available, but not guaranteed. In some cases, roommates in shared rooms may be required, at $175/month. The Institute has housing available in Marblemount or at the Learning Center on Diablo Lake. Smoking is not allowed in housing, during programs, or on the Institute’s campus. Pets are not allowed in the Institute’s campus housing, but a few rooms in one of the Marblemount houses allow for pets.
