Summary
Administration, long-range planning, operation and supervision of the Fish and Wildlife Education Division to facilitate nature-based education programs and learning opportunities that align with Nebraska Game & Park's mission of conservation & stewardship of the states natural resources, by working with schools, organizations, partners, and agency staff to engage people in the outdoors.
Job Duties:
- Management of the division budget, including budget planning, federal aid coordination, grant writing/management, sound fiscal management and reporting of division expenditures.
- Oversee the development and implementation of interpretive and educational programming to serve the goals and strategic objectives of the agency and address diverse audiences, including a menu of programs designed to satisfy curriculum standards that aligns with current and applicable state and national standards.
- Oversee and coordinate division programming across the state utilizing division staff and partnering organizations, providing programming options at agency venues and events, schools, or partner locations.
- Maintain Division adherence to applicable laws, rules, regulations, and administrative directives.
- Establish and convey clear goals and objectives, supervise the work of others.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local officials, NGPC divisions and the public. Attend conferences to network with professionals and learn of new programming opportunities.
- Collaborate with other agency divisions to provide educational/interpretive programming and outdoor skills development opportunities that complement or are additive to existing public outreach efforts of those divisions.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement training sessions, workshops and conferences for division personnel, agency staff involved in educational/interpretive programs, and partner agencies and organizations.
- Assist with the planning and development of passive or self-guided learning opportunities on NGPC managed areas. Provide expertise in the planning and development of interpretive/educational exhibits at agency venues.
- Establish a communication network that facilitates cohesive and consistent agency efforts across the state.
- Provide for program evaluations and reporting of results to administration.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of sound educational fundamentals and practices including formal and informal educational programs and activities.
- Knowledge of Nebraska’s parks, wildlife, fisheries, plant life and natural resources to best formulate programs meeting the agency’s mission and constituents needs.
- Knowledge of state and national educational standards, educational benchmark and evaluation standards, interpretive techniques, and methods to evaluate programs and align with agency mission.
- Ability to develop, coordinate and guide training sessions, workshops and conferences for division personnel, agency staff involved in education and interpretation, partner agencies and organizations.
- Ability to effectively communicate through writing and public speaking.
REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the incumbent to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A general qualification guideline for positions in this class is a bachelor’s degree in an area related to division function plus five years related experience. OR - A Master’s degree in an area related to division functions plus three years’ experience. OR - A high school education plus nine years’ experience related to division functions. Three years of the work experience must be of an administrative and supervisory nature.
