Maplehill School and Community Farm is recruiting for full-time Community Service and Farm to School AmeriCorps members. The positions are a year long commitment, Sept 3rd-Aug 22nd. The positions offer a wide variety of youth engagement through our farm and garden, culinary programming, various elective and vocational opportunities, and general every day relationship building through classroom and alternative educational settings. Lunch is provided :)

Summary

Farm to School Member supports:

  • Farm to School activities; including daily animal care and assisting youth in learning about & completing farm chores, general farm maintenance as the seasons shift, and leading Harvest of the Month project.
  • The Maplehill School Healthy Food Program, which provides healthy, locally grown food to our students and staff year-round, including working with the Farm to Table Coordinator to plan and cook meals as well as working with the Farm Educator to tend the farm and garden.
  • Programming around healthy nutrition, culinary life skills, humane animal care and food production basics - including planting, tending, harvesting, preserving crops.
  • General programming at Maplehill School including but not limited to attending field trips, mentoring/tutoring students, participating in elective and vocational training and PE activities.

Community Service AmeriCorps member supports:

  • Community service activities; including coordinating Elder Outreach programming, monthly food drops, community events, and building partnerships with local organizations.
  • The Maplehill School Healthy Food Program, which provides healthy, locally grown food to our students and staff year-round, including working with the Farm to Table Coordinator to plan and cook meals as well as working with the Farm Educator to tend the farm and garden.
  • Programming around healthy nutrition, culinary life skills, humane animal care and food production basics - including planting, tending, harvesting, preserving crops.

You must be 22 to apply with a clean driving record and personal vehicle.

Compensation Information

The position is a stipend position with a living allowance of $22,100 and an education award upon completion of $6,895. Members receive mileage reimbursement for travel during the service day. As listed above lunch is provided as well as coffee, tea, and the occasional sweet treat. Members have access to farm produce as the season allows.
