Summary

Purpose of Position

Program staff help with the many tasks involved providing a great outdoor environmental education experience for our guests. Sometimes it is families, other times it is students or other organized groups. Program staff teach established lesson plans and also run program areas such as the high ropes course, archery, and the waterfront. Everyone pitches in at meal times to help the cook with dishes. Comfortable lodging and food are provided. Must be friendly, creative, and able to “go with the flow.” When groups are not present, everyone assists with spring maintenance projects. Excellent on-the-job training will be provided.

Work week is Wednesday-Sunday.  Must be at least 18 and appreciate the wonders of the natural world. We will train you to be an effective program leader - able to "solo" when working with groups. Weekly pay plus room and board (in a shared house) and the opportunity to live and work in an amazing place.

Sound View Camp is a 100-acre facility on Puget Sound.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age,
  • Passion for the environment and sustainable living,
  • Friendly personality,
  • Willingness to live on site.
  • Preferred experience in recreation or teaching,
  • Valid food handlers card,
  • Willingness to learn new things,

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to the following)

  • Teach outdoor environmental education classes,
  • Run program areas as assigned,
  • Assist with evening programs, campfires, and large group activities,
  • Participate in training and staff meetings
  • Work with teachers and chaperones to ensure that students dietary needs are met,
  • Assist with hospitality (greeting groups, setting up dining hall, doing dishes, etc.)
  • Assist with occasional housekeeping, maintenance, and running the camp store,
  • When groups are not present, help where needed, including marketing and special projects.

Compensation Information

$300 per week + room and board
