About us:The American Bald Eagle Foundation (ABEF) is located in beautiful Haines, Alaska in the northern panhandle - just south of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and across the peninsula from Glacier Bay. The Preserve was established to protect and perpetuate the Chilkat Valley’s large concentration of bald eagles and their critical habitat. In addition to a sizeable year-round population, many more eagles congregate here in the fall to feed on spawning chum salmon.

The natural history museum opened its doors in 1994 and is home to over 200 specimens. A raptor center was added in 2010 and houses ten avian ambassadors.  Our staff are dedicated, motivated and ready to shine!

The ABEF also owns a substantial parcel of farmland in Haines, with mews for winter quarters for our raptors. We plan to plant an experimental orchard and form partnerships with local entities to best use this resource.
