The WET Science Center is currently hiring for a 7-month Environmental Educator project position, starting in November. Job duties include leading middle school field trips, planning and supporting STEAM educational activities for visitors. This full-time position provides full health, dental and vision benefits, and paid leave.

Summary

Located in Olympia, Washington and part of the LOTT Clean Water Alliance, the regional wastewater utility, the WET Science Center offers free programming and activities with a focus on urban water systems, wastewater treatment and water conservation. 

Under direct supervision of the Education Program Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with the planning, developing, and implementing a broad range of public education activities and programming that further LOTT's mission and goals.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts day-to-day operations of the WET Science Center; greets WET Center visitors at the front desk; interacts with visitors of all-ages to engage visitors and facilitate learning; monitors use of exhibit gallery and classroom; conducts routine cleaning/sanitizing of WET Science Center display components;
  • Plays an integral role in LOTT’s school programs as part of LOTT’s partnership with local school districts; delivers youth educational programming; guides facility and building tours; provides oversight for visiting student groups;
  • Develops and delivers educational programs, presentations, and activities for WET Center visitors, youth groups, Saturday programs, virtual programming, and special events as assigned; 
  • Participates in community partner education and outreach events as assigned;
  • Develops education and outreach materials for varied audiences, such as booklets, newsletters, promotional materials, posters and flyers, displays, advertising, and other materials as assigned; 
  • Maintains and orders supplies and materials for the WET Science Center and education program;
  • Supports the WET Science Center’s volunteer program by assisting with volunteer recruiting, training, and scheduling, oversight, and assignment of work; 
  • Assists with monitoring and maintaining the WET Science Center social media presence; 
  • Performs data entry related to program tracking and evaluation;
  • Participates in a variety of interagency and community meetings as requested;
  • Provides WET Center reception and supports general front desk functions by greeting visitors, and answering multi-line telephone system, answering or directing queries from the public, staff, and customers;
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:  

This position works Tuesday through Saturday with occasional evening hours. Due to the size and configuration of LOTT facilities, the ability to climb stairs and sufficient agility to safely navigate uneven terrain and slippery surfaces both indoors and outdoors is required.

Compensation Information

  • This position is a project-based 7-month assignment, full-time and provides a monthly salary of $5,023.50-6,106.12.
  • Full medical, dental and vision coverage is provided.
  • This position is eligible for paid holiday, vacation and sick leave.
