Summary
Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center is hiring an Environmental Educator. The Environmental Educator will provide educational opportunities to visiting classes, assist with project management and event planning, implementation of projects and events.

Programs are offered in our organic garden and in the 225+ acres of bayou, cypress-tupelo swamp, forest, and meadows. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach field trips for local school students, grades pre-K through 8
- Develop and teach public programs for visitors
- Provide guided interpretation during Outpost Tours for the general public and group tours
- Develop and teach summer camps
- Develop and present teacher workshops for school system teachers or lay persons to demonstrate methods of using Shangri La's natural areas to enhance school programs or to enrich other activities
- Select, assemble, and ensure that materials to be used for education purposes are prepared for school field trips, public programs, summer camps, teacher workshops, etc.
- Inventory, order, and maintain education equipment and supplies
- Assist with the training and supervision of volunteers, interns, summer students, and part-time educators; inform volunteers, interns, summer students, and part-time educators of policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
- Co-manage the Children's Garden, including budget planning and tracking, volunteer training, project planning, etc.; work with Horticulture Department staff and the Children's Garden Committee volunteers to manage and maintain this garden
- Make presentations to community and professional organizations concerning Shangri La programs and activities
- Assist with planning and implementation of annual events, such as Eco-Fest, Autumn Fair, Community Trash-Off, and other events
- Perform Manager-On-Duty (MOD) responsibilities one weekend approximately every six weeks
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- 2 - 3 years experience teaching outdoor, hands-on science
- Bachelor's degree required in environmental education, education with emphasis on science, or environmental science, or similar. Texas Teacher Certification preferred

Compensation Information
This position is a full-time salaried position starting at $38,000. The Stark Foundation offers benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, vacation, holiday, sick leave, pension, and 403(b).
