We are looking for fun, motivated individuals to help facilitate our environmental education field trips for elementary students. You will be working with children from preschool to middle school. We encourage creativity, shared learning, and having fun. This position is primarily in the spring (late April through May) and fall (September through October) for school field trips, but there is a possibility for summer work as well.

Summary

Winding Trails is looking for part-time environmental educators to help run field trip programs for local elementary schools. Our programs run from late April to the end of May and again from the beginning of September to the end of October with potential hours in the summer as well. 

Basic Function: 

  • Implement environmental education and science-based programs for school groups.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, science, sustainability, or other related fields.
  • Effective and confident verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to follow instructions and take constructive criticism.
  • Ability to take initiative and ask questions when needed.
  • Must have ability to work with groups of various age, gender, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Required to walk and stand for 3 or more hours at a time.
  • Ability to handle and work in adverse weather conditions.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Deliver curriculum-based programing to students preK-5 in the Farmington CT area.
  • Engage students, teachers, and the public about environmental issues and topics.
  • Lead groups of up to 15 students in various activities and challenges.
  • Responsible for assisting with set up and take down of all stations for the program.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and recordkeeping of various equipment usages.
  • Assists with the facilitation of safe, engaging, and enriching programing.
  • Reports on any incidents or accidents to the Education Coordinator.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training, as well as workshops and conferences as requested.

Compensation Information

$17.00 - $20.00 an hour depending on previous experience.
