This is a temporary position from September 2024 – June 2025 with the possibility of continuation.
Summary
Responsibilities include:
- Teach education programs both in the classroom and outdoors
- Work with the Education Manager and Education Director to develop and implement education programs that advance the Center’s mission, vision and values
- Assist lead Homeschool teacher with onsite homeschool programs on a weekly basis
- Teach February and April school vacation weeks for children grades K-6
- Lead outdoor environmental education programming
- Facilitate unstructured play outdoors
- Ensure a safe and positive outdoor play experience
- Support social-emotional development through appropriate risk-taking and team-building activities
- Foster a deep connection to the natural world
- Mentor a college intern assistant
- Lead field trips and schoolyard programs for elementary aged school children
- Provide inquiry-based instruction on a wide range of science topics for school groups, grades preK-6
- Conduct other children and family programs as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, biology, environmental education, or equivalent experience
- The desire to educate diverse audiences and share our commitment to dismantling white supremacy and a commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work.
- Deep passion for working with children and commitment to the Hitchcock Center’s mission, vision and values
- Working knowledge of informal and formal education theory and practice
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- People oriented, have a team-focused attitude, and the ability to professionally represent Hitchcock Center to the public
- Reliable transportation
- Comfort leading outdoor activities in a variety of weather conditions.

Compensation Information
$17-19/hr depending on prior experience and qualifications. This position is part time (20-30 hours per week) with primarily a weekday schedule. The total compensation package includes health insurance and generous paid time off benefits.
