Summary

The Environmental Educator position may teach a variety of environmental education programming to various age groups at Hartley Nature Center. They will join a friendly, dynamic staff that is dedicated to carrying out Hartley Nature Center’s mission of inspiring lifelong connections with nature through education, play and exploration.
This position is categorized as “occasional part time” meaning that the schedule is dynamic. Our staffing team will reach out to you with the teaching opportunities that we have and the person in this role can choose to accept or decline those offerings. These events may include outreach programs, summer camp, field trips, birthday parties, afterschool programs, public programming/ naturalist staffing on weekends, and other duties as assigned.
Duties:
- Develop and deliver development appropriate, learner-centered programming
- Teach and attend paid trainings for field trips and special prewritten programs
- Teach and attend trainings for camps to youth ages 4-12, when applicable
- Attend required staff meetings and professional development opportunities
- Work well with education interns, co-teachers and other staff members
- Work to center justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in your work as an educator and a part of the Hartley community
- Work to center stewardship and sustainability as an educator and part of the Hartley community
Qualifications:
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to complete during staff training
• Experience teaching environmental education or outdoor recreation
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to relate with people of all ages and abilities in a positive manner
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Genuine interest in working with children in the outdoors
• Degree in environmental studies, education, sciences, or related field or equivalent experience
• Ability to work and teach outdoors in all weather conditions
• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
