The Kentucky Environmental Education Council seeks an Interim Environmental Education Specialist to work on agency initiatives like the Professional Environmental Educator Certification course, which is accredited by NAAEE, and Kentucky's 5-year Master Plan for EE. The position is full-time for up to nine months, and includes the option to work remotely two days per week.

The Kentucky Environmental Education Council was established to improve Kentuckians’ understanding of their environment.

The agency works with primary and secondary schools, preschools, colleges and universities, local governments, nonprofits, businesses, private organizations, and individuals. Its goal is to provide Kentuckians with the knowledge they need to make their own informed decisions about our environment.

The Kentucky Environmental Education Council is seeking an Environmental Education Specialist to perform consultative services and technical assistance to educators, agencies, the public and others in planning, coordination, deliver, marketing, and evaluation of environmental education programs.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

Job duties include:

  • Oversees and develops the delivery of the Professional Environmental Educator Certification (PEEC) course for Kentucky.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements for accreditation of PEEC course through the North American Association for Environmental Education.
  • Oversees and administers the PEEC renewal process.
  • Organizes recognition for PEEC graduates.
  • Assists with the coordination of the five year statewide environmental education master plan.
  • Develops and coordinates the application process for nomination of schools to be recognized as US Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools.
  • Consults and provides technical assistance to agency stakeholders.
  • Works with the agency website, emails, social media, and the agency newsletter to assist consumers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional experience in environmental education, business administration, public administration, communications, natural resources, physical science, or a related area.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in environmental education, business administration, public administration, communications, natural resources, physical science, or a related area will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in environmental education, business administration, public administration, communications, natural resources, physical science, or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Position is eligible to work remotely two days per week.
