Summary

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is seeking a passionate Environmental Educator to Lead ongoing efforts towards Environmental Education in the State of Ohio Park System.

For the Division of Parks & Watercraft, acts as statewide environmental education manager; develops & implements statewide educational programming standards &/or policies & directives; correlates environmental education programs to Ohio’s Learning Standards; researches, develops, & edits content for a variety of educational mediums (e.g., text for brochures, text & photos for displays, written training material, script for radio & video); establishes, grows & maintains partnerships with local & statewide education & environmental education groups; plans, organizes, & leads educational training sessions for staff on a variety of topics; works with staff to develop, define & implement a statewide nature education scope of services (e.g., what offerings are available, by whom, where); reviews & audits environmental education programming, providing feedback to staff & managers; coordinates large-scale & local special events; assists with tracking & providing oversight to the completion of training; maintains training budget.

Performs miscellaneous administrative duties: facilitates compliance & certifications for any environmental education or education training or programs, works with managers to contribute to annual performance audits, including creating standard performance goals for naturalists, develops, evaluates & compiles program reports, makes program recommendations, prepares correspondence, schedules external & internal instructors, prepares & maintains training documents (e.g., lesson plans & tests, schedules, educational materials, attendance rosters, brochures & pamphlets, etc.), determines needs & orders, purchases & maintains materials & equipment, creates or update standardized forms.

Serves as liaison with other divisions, state, local & federal agencies; represents division in public relations work (e.g., prepares news releases, appears on radio & TV, participates in meetings, gives speeches & presentations); coordinates workshops/meetings; handles sensitive or complex issues & complaints; represents section/division at meetings; obtains National Association of Interpreters (NAI) accreditation (after employment).
