Summary
Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River (FNFSR) is seeking a college student or recent high school graduate for a summer internship opportunity. The internship is primarily based in environmental education, and will run from May 30 through July 28, with the week of July 4th off. Some weekend work will be required. The intern position will support FNFSR's Education and Science Lead in science-based educational programming for 2 weeks of watershed-centered summer camps and 2 weeks of summer school. This intern will also work with our staff for up to 2 weeks of stewardship projects and recreational activities with our North Fork Conservation Corps teens at Seven Bends State Park. They will also gain experience connecting the public to FNFSR's programs by helping with up to 2 weekend public events. Working with our program Lead, the intern will help deliver a wide range of creative activities for the programs listed above and have the opportunity to develop programming of their own. This will be a great opportunity to work with children and teens, and to assist with social media outreach to engage the community. Some office-based work is involved, but much of the internship will be outdoors with students and the public. Reliable transportation to and from multiple work sites in the local area will be required; a mileage reimbursement will be provided.
Workload and Benefits
With some weeks engaged in all-day camps and others having lighter program loads, this internship will entail roughly 200-hours of experience-building program support through 8 of the 9 weeks. The week of the 4th of July will be off. A weekly living allowance of $300 will be provided for each of the 9 weeks of this internship.
While this internship is scheduled to begin on May 30th and end July 28th, students in need of minor modifications to this schedule are encouraged to apply.
To apply please send your cover letter, resume, and 3 references to Kathleen Fish at Kathleen.fish@fnfsr.org
