Summary

Job Title: Environmental Education Coordinator 

Reports to: Director of Environmental Education 

Hours: Full-time, Exempt M-F, occasional nights and weekends

Salary Range: $38,000 - $43,000 depending on experience + benefits

Location Fayetteville, GA Office.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Education, assists in the successful running of the Fayette Environmental Education Center, the care of its program animals, and all of its environmental education and community outreach programming to include the volunteer program, Camp Wild Summer Camp, and all social media promotion associated with these programs.

Environmental Education/Nature Center: (70%)

  • Assist Director of Environmental Education in the successful planning and execution of on-site and in-school field trips, monthly education programming (Homeschool, Teachable Tuesdays, Preschool Storytime, and other programs as developed), community tabling events, and SCT seasonal community event days.
  • Assist the Director of Environmental Education in leading SCT’s Camp Wild summer camp program by planning and facilitating engaging and educational games, crafts, and activities for each of the six themed weeks of camp.
  • Assist the Director of Environmental Education with creating and maintaining environmental education center exhibits, animal displays, general cleanliness and appearance of the Fayette Environmental Education Center.
  • Create seasonal scavenger hunts for environmental education center visitors and update them to incorporate new or temporary indoor and outdoor exhibits.
  • Assist the Director of Environmental Education with purchasing and maintaining accurate records for all nature center supplies (i.e.: education program materials, animal care supplies, supplies relating to community events and the volunteer program).
  • Work with the Director of Environmental Education to create and post engaging content on the Fayette Environmental Education Center social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) to bring awareness to and promote programs at the EE center.
  • Maintain environmental education related certification.

Volunteer Program: (20%)

  • Work with the Director of Environmental Education to establish a nature center based volunteer program (EE center docents and animal care volunteers).
  • Oversee screening, onboarding, and training volunteer docents and animal care volunteers to support running the EE center and during community programs and events.
  • Ensure guidelines and procedures for docenting and animal care are being followed to the highest standard possible by all volunteers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with volunteers and report all concerns and violations of SCT policy to the Director of Environmental Education as soon as possible.
  • Work with the Director of Environmental Education to establish a tenure reward system for regular volunteers and volunteer of the year program, to be announced during SCT's annual benefit event.

Animal Care: (10%)

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Environmental Education, provide care for program reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, maintain clean enclosures, and assist with regular deep clean events.
  • Maintain accurate care records and ensure that any irregular behavior, appearances or movements, and concerns are reported to the Director of Environmental Education in a timely manner.
  • Assist with purchasing and maintaining accurate records for any animal related materials (feed, enclosures, bedding, cleaning supplies, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, natural sciences, parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, or related field required.
  • 2 years Environmental and recreational program experience or relevant master’s degree.
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate with a variety of public and private interests, partners, and constituents.
  • Strong computer proficiency and office skills.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends events as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to use a personal vehicle when necessary (with mileage reimbursement for out of county travel).
  • High-energy, creative, self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills; proven ability to meet deadlines and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work effectively, positively, and collaboratively as part of our dynamic team.

  • Project Learning Tree, Project WET, Project WILD Instructor
  • GA Adopt-A-Stream Certifications
  • American Red Cross Instructor Certification
