The goal of the Environmental Education (EE) program is to facilitate a strong connection to our Sonoran Desert home through understanding and experiences and to foster a sense of belonging and common responsibility to protect it. AmeriCorps Climate Resilient Intern will work with a variety of Environmental Education professionals to engage the public in environmental education and stewardship activities.

Summary

Position Title: Environmental Education and Outreach Intern (2 positions available)
900 total hours, 24 hours/week for 38 weeks.
Reports To: Julie Strom
Location: Tucson, Arizona
 

The role of Environmental Education and Outreach Intern will be to engage the public in conversations and experiences that promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for the Sonoran Desert and highlight the impact of climate change and associated issues (e.g., invasive species) that threaten our community’s amazing biodiversity.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Engaging the public in activities including bioblitzes, phenology monitoring, and native seedball making.
  • Working with a variety of audiences to develop and implement urban rewilding projects.
  • Assisting with the Living River of Words: Youth Art and Science program.
  • Developing, preparing, and leading educational and interpretive programs in an outdoor, natural environment
  • Tabling at community events
  • Helping with additional programs and events as needed
