Summary

Location: The Energy Coalition, Irvine, San Diego, and Oakland, California

Pay: $2636/month

Additional Pay: $10,000 bonus upon program completion

About The Energy Coalition (TEC)

The Energy Coalition (or TEC, pronounced “tech”) is a nonprofit organization with over 45 years of experience designing and implementing strategies that transform energy use and inspire people to take responsible energy actions. TEC works closely with K-12 school districts, local governments, special districts, and other public entities to develop energy efficiency strategies and projects that support statewide energy goals. TEC has employed AmeriCorps fellows to support resource saving programs, supporting educators in program implementation, and building capacity in reaching underserved populations.

 

OVERVIEW & IMPACT

Energy is Everything program - The Fellow will focus on expanding core energy, climate, and environmental programs by supporting statewide education, training, and workforce development initiatives offered through TEC with particular emphasis on expansion and development related to at-risk, formal, and informal service populations. The Fellow will support building partnerships with disadvantaged communities and populations throughout California.

Additionally, the Fellow will support in-class and field-based activities through direct student education, community activities, and the development of new materials and offerings. The Fellow will support engagement via TEC’s platforms and the development of engaging content for online education, training, and engagement through live webinars, video recordings, and more.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Jr. Energy Manager Certification Program
  • Lead student enrollment efforts
  • Engage the educators and secure enrollment
  • Weekly check-ins
  • 1 Million Energy Actions
  • Engage educators and enroll in the campaign
  • Weekly check-ins and 
  • Plan, prepare, and present events (frequency varies). Weekend and evening events are required and based on educator and partner requests
  • Coordinate scheduling
  • Equity reports (as assigned ~20 hours/report)
  • Compile demographic data on communities of interest
  • Identify key contacts, existing organizations and resources
  • Gap Analysis
  • Collect, quality check, process, and analyze data
  • Program data reporting
  • Collect, compile, and analyze survey responses
  • My Future Energy Career/EV Network
  • Research, outreach, and engage with potential professionals/EV owners
  • Schedule time to interview
  • Act as a ‘director’ during interview filming (if the interviewee is not filming themselves)
  • Submit video footage for review and additional edits
  • Once approved post video to YouTube channel
  • Follow up with the interviewee
  • Recruit, train, and manage Field Educators

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or relevant field; 
  • Experience or interest in working with public agencies; 
  • Experience conducting presentations (in-person or by webinar) to diverse audiences 
  • Comfortable working with external industry partners via phone, email and in-person; 
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand fundamentals of building systems, building energy performance, energy efficiency concepts, energy project financing terminology, best practices, and assessment/measurement; 
  • Comfortable working with (and learning) databases and data entry, as well as analysis; 
  • Experience with data analysis (i.e. utility bills), compute energy efficiency calculations using standard templates and methods; 
  • Possess strong analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to capture and analyze data in a spreadsheet format; 
  • Strong MS Excel skills; Experience with technology platforms including but not limited to: Google Suites, Slack, Salesforce, GIS, Python, Microsoft Suites is preferred; 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks; Ability to complete assignments in a thorough, accurate and timely manner; Attention to detail and follow-through in tasks that meet contract deliverables; 
  • Proficient in English (verbal and written)

 

FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCE AT THE ENERGY COALITION

  • Opportunities to travel to and work in TEC’s statewide offices (reimbursable), including Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Oakland. 
  • Support statewide activities and attend various TEC training and team-building functions that may require travel throughout the cycle.

  • CLIMATE CORPS AMERICORPS QUALIFICATIONS
  • AmeriCorps fellows must:
  • Be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
  • Have a high school diploma/GED
  • Be 17 years old or older
  • Pass state criminal and FBI background checks, and a national check in the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Registry
  • Test negatively for tuberculosis if working with minors
  • Be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to weekly testing
  • Live in the state of California
