Summary
POSITION OVERVIEW
This Energize Careers Fellowship is a full time position based at San Jose City College. The Fellow in this position will support the full range of energy career training programs at SJCC, including HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the transition to a clean energy future with an interest in energy efficiency, electrification, heat pumps, and renewable energy.
ABOUT ENERGIZE CAREERS
The Energize Careers program aims to create a diverse and representational sustainability workforce through the economic empowerment of people who experience barriers to employment by helping them to access high-wage, high-growth green career opportunities. The Energize Careers Program provides holistic services to support marginalized people through technical training, job placement, and employment support. Energize Careers training partners include pre-apprenticeship programs, apprenticeship programs, community-based training organizations, and community colleges to provide technical sustainability training to underserved individuals, and we collaborate with wrap around service providers and industry partners to provide participants with services and support to secure and retain high-wage, high-growth green career opportunities.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY
- Supporting faculty and instructors in offering high quality training for energy efficiency and sustainability careers. This may include research, development of instructional materials, and instructional support in the classroom
- Investigate emerging trends in technology and the labor market for air conditioning, water heating, space heating, renewable energy, electrification and refrigeration
- Identify and develop relationships with local employers, recruiters, and partner organizations to support participant recruitment, support services, and job placement
- Supporting students in obtaining positions where they will be utilizing energy efficiency skills, including connecting students with a demonstrated need to advanced career/wraparound service providers
- Assisting faculty and SEI staff in collecting and maintaining necessary program documentation
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

CLIMATE CORPS QUALIFICATIONS
- Availability for the full-time, 10-month Fellowship program, beginning in September 2021
- Climate Corps Fellows must have completed a 4-year degree by the time the program cycle starts in September 2021.
- A connection to the placement location. This is an equal opportunity position and we prefer to place a candidate who already lives in the region being served.
- Experience in and the drive to address racism and create race equity with the team members and programmatically.

San José City College offers two certificates and an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology. This program is designed to develop the appreciation, knowledge, and skills essential for employment in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Instruction includes both theory and practical work with refrigeration and air conditioning machinery, electrical equipment, and related mathematics.
