This position serves as the Education Section representative for KDWP in the NE part of Kansas. Responsibilities include outreach efforts with area schools/organizations in wildlife education and outdoor skills initiatives.

Summary

  • Supports established relationships/partnerships with many school districts in the multi-county region of northeast Kansas, as well as multiple NGOs and other (local, State and Federal) governmental agencies.
  • Conducts in-service trainings for local teachers, administrators, and students to implement wildlife/aquatic and outdoor education into the curriculum of local school districts.
  • Coordinates the operation of the Satellite Reference Center located at the Kansas City District Office with partner organizations and coordination of the Outdoor Wildlife Learning Site program (OWLS) within a designated northeastern Kansas region.
  • Develops, coordinates and presents wildlife education outreach programs in Kansas City metro and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinates and promotes outdoor skills programs and R3 efforts in the KC area and works effectively with the public, volunteers, department employees, conservation organizations, city and governmental agencies, involving them in all aspects of environmental and outdoor education.

Minimum Requirements: • Two years of experience in developing and delivering educational presentations. • Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource or education field preferred. • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. • Applicants must be able to speak effectively before groups of all ages, organize and express information in concise written form and establish and maintain effective working relationships. • A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.
