Spend your summer turning marine science into unforgettable camp experiences at Clearwater Marine Aquarium! As an Education Summer Camp Intern, you’ll help lead classroom activities, snorkeling, kayaking, & aquarium tours while working directly with campers ages 5–18. You’ll build teaching skills, gain hands-on experience in marine science, & complete a project where you design and teach your own lesson. It’s a fast-paced, outdoor internship perfect for college students who love marine life, teamwork, & inspiring future ocean advocates!
Summary
Opportunities & Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on experience by assisting with dynamic camp programs, including classroom lessons, snorkeling, kayaking, and animal interactions, while creating memorable experiences for campers.
- Develop leadership skills by assisting with the management of groups of up to 25 children (ages 5-18) and assisting during mid-day extended care breaks.
- Take on a capstone project, providing the opportunity to design, develop, and implement your own educational activities, gaining valuable lesson planning and execution experience.
- Collaborate with experienced camp instructors to manage classrooms and participate in educational programming, building skills in teaching and classroom management.
- Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to engage campers and enhance their learning experiences in a fun and interactive environment.
- Assist with leading aquarium tours, sharing in-depth and accurate animal information while gaining public speaking and interpretation skills.
- Help campers identify species while snorkeling and assist with field activities, gaining practical experience in marine biology and environmental education.
- Contribute to program preparation by assisting with material setup, classroom organization, team-building exercises, and pre-camp preparations.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Education, Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Must pass a State and National Criminal History Review and receive approval from the Florida Department of Children and Families to work with summer camp children.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, based on business needs.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Must be able to perform extensive walking and standing throughout the entire work shift, including frequent stair climbing.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying Florida weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, cold, and rain. Ability to work without air conditioning for the duration of the shift.
