Summary
The Education Specialist facilitates and supports Estuary EDventures education programs (field-trips and camps for all ages, citizen science projects, outreach and internships. The Education Specialist develops curricula, collects and reports program data, and assists with program marketing. They are responsible for maintaining the Auer Marine Education Center and aquarium husbandry. The position reports to the Director of Education.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead facilitator for field-trip and camp programs
- Maintain Marine Education Center/Classroom and participate in opening/closing procedures
- Design, develop, enhance, and update program curricula and education publications, with goals and objectives aligned to state standards
- Manage the maintenance and care of department supplies and program materials
- Perform various field activities and species identification
- Coordinate animal husbandry and training for the animal collection and perform and monitor aquarium daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, tank changes, and water quality
- Coordinate the education junior counselor program for summer camp and oversee quality (Manage marketing, hire, train, supervise, and schedule junior counselors)
- Assist in training, guiding, and evaluating interns and encourage open line of communication for intern satisfaction, understanding of intern duties, and fulfillment of internship requirements
- Assist in coordination, development, and administration of all camp programs
- Assist with departmental planning
- Serve as mate on USCG-certified beach catamaran and participate in USCG Consortium random drug testing program.
- Serve as lead kayak instructor and maintain ACA Level 1 Skills certification
- Maintain knowledge of emergency protocol with the ability to implement emergency action plans and maintain valid adult and pediatric first aid and CPR/AED certifications
- Develop and facilitate teacher training workshops and/or Project WILD workshops
- Generate and distribute student demographics and program feedback surveys
- Assist in tracking and reporting program data
- Assist in coordinating citizen science projects and tracking and reporting data
- Monitor and report species collection
- Participate in regularly scheduled departmental meetings and trainings in order to ensure open and positive communication
- Facilitate and support community outreach and public education programs
- Participate in professional development and attend, present at relevant classes, trainings, and conferences
- Support habitat restoration projects and development events
