Cape Fear Botanical Garden
Founded in 1989, Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a natural beauty situated on an impressive 80 acres nestled between the Cape Fear River and Cross Creek just two miles from downtown Fayetteville. Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that connects everyone to nature. The Garden offers cultural events to inspire and excite and educational activities for school groups, children, families, and adults.
Summary
An ideal education specialist will have a passion for working with children and foster a love of nature in students. The position will include planning, assisting with, and teaching educational programs for all ages (pre-k-adult). As part of our education team, the specialist will also help create curriculum, assist with registrations, and care for our education animals. The position responsibilities will shift seasonally as we focus on field trip groups in the spring, camps over the summer, program development in the winter, and larger community garden events on specific dates throughout the year. There may also be opportunities to help expand our volunteer program.

Duties and Responsibilities Summary
The Garden is looking for someone who can comfortably teach a variety of classes, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and with a close-knit team. Field trip and classroom programs are standards based with specific curriculum objectives. All Cape Fear Botanical Garden Education programs should be engaging and encourage hands-on learning. A variety of teaching techniques is important for working with small and large groups, in indoor and outdoor settings, with mixed ages, and diverse students.
Experience and Knowledge Summary
Cape Fear Botanical Garden is looking for someone with experience creating and implementing programs. An associate’s degree is required and a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Specific knowledge of environmental education techniques, native ecology, horticulture and experience with diverse populations. Experience in working with volunteers or ability to speak Spanish would be bonus. Personal transportation is required to conduct programs off-site at schools and libraries and shop for program and camp supplies.
Expected Hiring Rate: $14 an hour
