About AMM:
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is not just a museum but a vibrant community hub. We serve Anne Arundel County and beyond, educating youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. We host an engaging suite of hands-on programming in unique locations, including our two campuses on Back Creek and the historic skipjack, Wilma Lee. The Education Department serves approximately 12,000 youth annually educating them on the history, ecology, and cultural traditions of the Chesapeake Bay.
Position Description:
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is seeking a qualified applicant for a year-round part-time position focusing on environmental education and interpretation. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a background in environmental science, museum studies, biology, education, or other related fields. This position will run from February-December 2025, but exact start and end dates are flexible and based on demand for school programs. Most programs will take place during the school day, Monday through Friday with some opportunities on the weekends.
The primary role of an Instructor is to deliver impactful educational experiences for a diverse audience of K-12 youth and adults. Programs take place outdoors, on the water and in classrooms. An ideal candidate is creative, passionate, and flexible, with the ability to work well with a small team, and excited to educate in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants
- Teach programs, on and off site, for groups of Pre-K-12th grade students, scouts, and camps
- Organize and prepare materials before and after programs
- Create lesson plans and design activities to enhance educational programming
- Assist program managers with administrative tasks, attendance, equipment maintenance and animal care
- Support AMM events, staff tables, exhibits, and special programs
- Create and maintain a safe, fun, learning atmosphere for children
- Reports to, and work closely with, the Education Programs Coordinator and Lead Educator with all aspects of the education department
Desired Qualifications:
- Education experience with youth
- Background in environmental education, museum studies, biology, history, or related field
- Strong passion for the environment and desire to teach in the field
- A passion for the Chesapeake Bay, its people and our shared maritime heritage
- Ability to foster positive work relationships with AMM staff, interns, and volunteers
- Ability to problem solve and adjust to program changes
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- General knowledge of watersheds and other aquatic/marine ecosystems
- Must be comfortable working outside in various weather conditions, in/near the water, and able to lift 25 lbs.
- CPR certified preferred
- Must pass a CJIS background check

Compensation Information
$18-$22/ hour plus mileage stipend (commensurate with experience)
