The program is part of the PrepareRI High School Internship Program, in partnership with Skills for Rhode Island’s Future. Position: Seasonal Education Program Coordinator
Location: 235 Promenade St. Providence, RI
Start Date: April/May (6-month position)
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 am-5:00 pm or as position dictates
Pay: $22/hour (40-hour work week)

Overview
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is seeking a highly qualified and dependable education professional with an environmental science background to play a leading role in designing, planning, and implementing a pilot career exploration and internship program for the summer of 2023. As the program coordinator, you will serve as the point person for this program. You will contribute to curriculum development and program delivery that helps empower high school-aged youth, specifically students from historically underserved communities, with the knowledge, passion, on-the-job experiences, and professional skills training they need to begin their pursuit of meaningful and fulfilling futures in environmental sector careers.
Job Summary
- Prepare for and lead a 6-8 week program that includes opportunities for high school students to increase their knowledge in high school
- level science concepts, explore STEM-related careers, and grow their professional skills through project-based internship placements.
- Coordinate with DEM staff to organize and schedule guest speakers, internship placements, field trip opportunities, service-learning
- projects, and the usage of facility space.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to capitalize on collective resources.
- Work directly with area schools, agencies, nonprofits, and others to promote and coordinate the program.
- Assist in the documentation and evaluation of the program.
- Provide effective communication with staff, students and their families throughout the duration of the program.
- Coordinate transportation to/from off-site experiences such as field trips and internship placements.
Desired Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, environmental science, biology, or education with some environmental focus. Prior experience in environmental education or formal education. Experience working with diverse populations/multicultural environments. Bilingual, Spanish speaking preferred.
Compensation Information
$22/hour (40-hour work week)
