Summary
As part of the Oxbow Education (OxEd) team, the Environmental Education Program Coordinator contributes to creating, planning, implementing, monitoring, and documenting Oxbow’s outdoor and educational programs for preK-12th grade youth (and beyond). These include field trips (school and family), summer and seasonal camps, in-school programs, activities at public events, and custom program offerings. The position involves both administrative and programmatic functions, including overseeing OxEd registrations, providing customer service to teachers and parents, and coordinating logistics and operational details with teachers prior to field trips. In collaboration with OxEd colleagues, the Program Coordinator will coordinate and deliver educational programming including supporting improvements to existing programs, pursuing new initiatives, grants, and partnerships, and developing and implementing strategies to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout Oxbow’s programs and organization. The job is a great fit for detail-oriented, systems-minded folks that are passionate about Environmental Education and Sustainable Agriculture, who want a balance of operational support and program development/delivery in an incredible natural setting, with a small, collaborative team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
- Oversee OxEd program registrations, including initial participant program communication, scheduling, and follow-up
- Assist the OxEd Program Manager (and other Oxbow program staff) to design, market, evaluate and document Oxbow Education programs, including field trips, off-site programs, partnership programs, special events and camps
- Lead role in the design, implementation and data collection for program evaluations
- Supports hiring and training of OxEd staff
- Provides onboarding, logistical support and tracking for OxEd volunteers
- Leading role in external communication with participants regarding Oxbow Education programming
- Utilizing customer resource management (CRM) software to generate reports for internal use (including other Oxbow program departments) and as needed for external relations
Coordination and Planning
- Assist the design, planning, and strengthening of Oxbow Education programming for all ages with input from teachers and curriculum specialists
- Work closely with other internal teams to develop, execute and assess outreach and marketing strategies and materials for OxEd programming
- Represent the Education Programs vis-a-vis other Oxbow staff (administration, volunteer coordination, communication, etc.)
Program Support and Delivery
- Oversee coordination of education programs (including field trips, off-site programs, special events and camps) —lead role in group registration, scheduling and payment; collaborating with finance and operations teams as needed
- Assist the OxEd Assistant Program Manager in coordination, delivery and assessment of partnership programs with local schools and other organizations
- Coordinate with teachers/group leaders, and help organize staff and resources prior to all trips
- Facilitate delivery of spring, fall and winter programs for all age levels as needed (on-site, virtual and outreach)
- Visit classrooms in winter as an Oxbow Farmer—learn and teach in-class lessons, maintain program materials
- Participate in and support Oxbow fundraising and public events
- Assist the OxEd Program Manager and leadership team to plan, design, market, evaluate and document OxEd programs.
- Participate in farm upkeep, including planting, weeding, harvesting, and other duties as needed in partnership with Oxbow’s Garden Coordinator and Site Team.
Camp Programs
- Lead role in coordinating registration, scheduling and payment of Oxbow Camp participants, as well as communication with camper families before and after camp sessions, working closely with the Summer Camp Director/Assistant Manager
- Assist in preparing for Oxbow’s Farm Camps and support staff and participants as needed during programming (including leading activities, and acting as a “special guest farmer”)
- Contribute to the success of Oxbow’s Farm Camps, including storytelling, cooking and culinary experiences, coordinating opportunities for teen campers, and supporting & training summer camp staff as needed
New Initiatives and Grants
- Participate in identifying, planning and pursuing new Environmental Education initiatives and funding opportunities.
- Contribute actively to grant seeking and grant writing, implementing projects & contribute to reporting
- Contributes to creating, planning, implementing, monitoring, and documenting programs
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- College degree in education, science or related field, or a combination of equivalent education and work experience
- Experience in outdoor education and working with kids, included demonstrated skill in creating and fostering safe (emotionally and physically) environments for youth
- Experience with program coordination or project management
- Commitment to equity, inclusion and social/environmental justice
- Strong leadership skills, confident giving direction and managing people and activities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must possess good problem solving and interpersonal skills
- Openness and flexibility
- Familiarity with Neon (or other CRM systems) and ability to learn basic functions of our registration software
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or ability to learn MS Teams tools for internal and external collaboration
- Ability to take direction, ask for help/clarity when necessary, and accept constructive feedback on work and technique
- Strong organizational skills, and punctuality
- Farming and/or gardening, nutrition, or agriculture education experience preferred, but not required
- Skill in language other than English (esp. Spanish) preferred, but not required
- Possess or are willing to obtain Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR & AED certification by a certain time after hire (4 months) (training/certification cost will be compensated)
- Possess or are willing to obtain Washington State Food Handling certification by a certain time after hire (4 months) (training/certification cost will be compensated)
- Ability to work hard physically, able to lift heavy & awkward objects, up to 50 lbs.

Compensation Information
This is a permanent, full-time position, paying a starting rate of $23.00 to $25.00 per hour (DOE) as well as benefits including full employer-paid medical, vision and dental, sick and PTO that start immediately upon hire, and retirement 403(b).
