Siskiyou Field Institute (SFI) is seeking a dynamic Education Manager to join our work here in beautiful Southwest Oregon! Who We Are:

Siskiyou Field Institute’s (SFI) mission is to increase the understanding of, and connection to, the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion through education, scientific research, and public engagement. SFI is where people come to learn about and explore the amazing Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion, a land of steep mountains, wild rivers, and unusual diversity of species and habitats. SFI is a conduit for scientists and naturalists to share their passion and knowledge with the public each year through adult field courses and youth education programs. SFI is headquartered on the 850-acre Deer Creek Ranch where the Institute’s administrative office and its educational, lodging, and event facilities are housed.

What You’ll Do:

The Education Manager position is responsible for all aspects of our youth and adult education programming including but not limited to:

Youth Education Program (YEP)

  • Oversee all aspects of youth programs, planning and implementing program policies, logistics, activities, schedules, and health/safety protocols
  • Ensure facilitation of arrival, meals, campfire, games, activities, staff/volunteer meetings, and departures is being implemented following program goals and objectives
  • Work collaboratively to create and lead annual staff & volunteer training
  • Support staff & volunteers to engage students in activities using trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches
  • Implement program changes using equity-focused assessments and community feedback
  • Accommodate the needs of all youth, staff, and volunteers, especially people from historically marginalized backgrounds
  • Prepare budgets for overnight and day camps, instructor training, meal service, and gear purchasing
  • Implement and improve student-centered curriculum and programming, including land-based field studies, evening programs, social-emotional learning activities, and community-building
  • Fulfill all Oregon Outdoor School requirements in Senate Bill 439, meeting science and equity standards 
  • Coordinate with food service staff to ensure food allergies and sensitivities are accommodated
  • Collaborate with Siskiyou Field Institute administrative staff on relevant grants, staffing, equity initiatives, and partnerships 

Adventure Learning Program: (ALP)

  • Schedule a full roster (15-25) of in-person and online field courses twice per year
  • Search for and facilitate new opportunities for program partnerships with aligned organizations
  • Set up and plan program schedules and logistics in collaboration with instructors and volunteers, including class preparations, registrations, pre-course info, sending post-course evaluations
  • Apply for and secure special use permits to conduct SFI classes on public lands from federal, state, and other governments as appropriate and track permit use statistics
  • Track and analyze evaluations, participation, revenue, costs, and other pertinent course data
  • Act as host and tech support for all classes based online and serve as backup host for in-person courses
  • Expand training agreements with government agencies, offering new types of programming and/or programming that meets an underserved need in the community
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers to achieve the overall mission of the Institute.
  • Support in preparation of funding requests and appropriate funder/donor recognition
  • Actively participate in the planning and implementation of fund/friend-raising events and activities.
  • Provide data and analysis for the preparation of Board reports and public outreach.

Who You Are:

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Demonstrated experience managing residential environmental education programs with a strong lens for risk management
  • Demonstrated office/administrative skills including, managing and communicating with multiple stakeholders quickly and accurately
  • Experience training, coaching, or supervising educators/outdoor program staff
  • Written and verbal communication skills in customer service
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom, and cell phone-based communication tools
  • Experience or training in equity and inclusion work
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years related experiential education experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • Valid Driver's License

Compensation Information

  • $20-$25/hr Range 32-40 hrs/wk
  • Monthly Healthcare Stipend
  • Generous paid vacation, training days, and sick leave
