Summary

The Education Coordinator focused on Adult Programs coordinates Trees Atlanta’s Adult Education events, including speaker series, workshops, tours, certification training, and lunch and learns (both in-person and virtual). Our ideal candidate will be a creative individual with experience leading programming and classes for adults.  Weekend and Evening work will occur for in-person and virtual events.  The work schedule is flexible as long as it is preapproved by the Associate Director. 

Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized non-profit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlanta’s tree loss, protect its forests, and create new greenspace. Empowered by its wonderful community of volunteers, Trees Atlanta serves the metro Atlanta area, and has grown to become one of Atlanta’s most widely known and supported non-profit organizations.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate logistics and moderate a year-round schedule of speakers, presentations, workshops, tours, trainings, and continuing education programs. May include virtual and in-person events.
  • Identify and coordinate with potential speakers, instructors, and other experts to deliver events/classes. Collaborate with the education team and Trees Atlanta staff to discover compelling topics and activities to enhance the education programs for adults and youth.
  • Lead the development of short-term and long-term strategies for improving adult education, engagement, and capacity in terms of number of participants, variety of classes and events offered, and quality and innovation in content.
  • Lead classes to train and manage new and existing graduates of our “Certified Docent” program, who conduct tree tours throughout Atlanta and act as Ambassadors on behalf of Trees Atlanta.
  • Assists with creation of events and programs through use of Salesforce, Click & Pledge, and Trello
  • Provides feedback to the Associate Director on budget and forecast for Adult Programs and tracks interactions and trends. 
  • Assist in facilitation of education programs
  • Oversee volunteers where appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

 Skills Requirements

  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in horticulture, urban forestry, ecology, or education
  • 2+ years of experience creating and managing a schedule of speaker events, classes, and education programs for adults.
  • 1+ years of experience working with volunteers and/or staff to support programs.
  • Competency in tree and plant identification, particularly species found in the southeast and specimens planted by Trees Atlanta in the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum.
  • Ability to work independently and with attention to detail
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Teaching experience (formal or non-formal) preferred
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Project management/event planning experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps and Zoom

Physical Requirements

  • Some flex hours will be required; meaning, leading periodic evening and/or weekend events may be required. We use flex time to equate to a standard 40/hr work week.
  • Must have consistent and reliable transportation to attend events (with program tools/materials) in various locations throughout Metro-Atlanta (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Physically capable of walking several miles and spending active days outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather, dirt, and insects on occasions. Must be able to participate in active tasks, such as plantings, setup for events, and other tasks requiring lifting, moving, and other strenuous motions.

Compensation Information

Salary:  $35,568
