The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary seeks a passionate and experienced Education Coordinator to help expand our environmental education, and empathy-based humane education programs. The organization provides immersive learning experiences that foster compassion for animals and stewardship of the natural world. The Education Coordinator supports curriculum development, coordinates school partnerships, and leads learning experiences for students, families, and community groups.

Summary

Responsibilities

  • Revise and expand the sanctuary’s current K–6 curriculum, integrating outdoor learning, animal welfare, conservation, and ecological literacy while aligning program content with relevant state and national education standards.
  • Design and implement engaging, age-appropriate programs that inspire connection with animals and the natural world.
  • Lead in-person instruction for school groups, families, and community audiences.
  • Maintain and strengthen partnerships with schools and community organizations.
  • Coordinate program scheduling, communications, and logistics in collaboration with sanctuary staff.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and responsive learning environment for participants of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Oversee the use and upkeep of educational materials and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Support public events, workshops, and seasonal programming.
  • Track participation data and program outcomes to inform evaluation and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, biology, conservation, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years teaching or instructional experience in outdoor or experiential education
  • Strong understanding of ecosystems, wildlife, and animal welfare principles
  • Experience designing curriculum and adapting instruction for varied learning styles and age groups
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and group facilitation skills
  • First Aid/CPR certification required

Preferred: Experience aligning curriculum with environmental literacy frameworks and state or national education standards

Compensation Information

Salary: $60,000–$70,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Benefits include:
15 days Paid Time Off annually (accrued after 90 days)
10 federal holidays plus one floating personal day
$5,000 annual contribution toward a health plan through Access Health CT
Flexible sick time based on wellness needs
