Using current best practices in education and behavioral science, the Education Coordinator will develop, deliver, and assess innovative education programs that support specific conservation outcomes approved by the District Director and Board of Supervisors. The Education Coordinator will collaborate with community partners to inspire and empower audiences of all ages to take individual and collective action for conservation in Clermont County. With an eye toward continuous improvement, ongoing professional development is an expectation via webinars, research articles, and networking.

Summary

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Plan programs that incorporate best practices in environmental education, interpretation, adult learning, and conservation psychology
  • Collaborate with all SWCD staff to establish a presence in the community through events, materials, and programs.
  • Provide input on social marketing studies and campaigns for urban and agricultural conservation practices
  • Work with the District Director to identify new revenue sources and obtain additional funding for education programs

Teaching

  • Design and deliver programs for children, teachers, youth, homeowners, farmers, families, and decision makers
  • Reassess school programming based on the District’s 2023 Strategic Plan

Partnering 

The end goal of Environmental Education is a citizenry of educated, skilled, motivated people who take action to solve environmental problems and prevent new ones. While synthesizing and sharing what is currently known about behavioral change theory, the Education Coordinator will facilitate collaborations with a wide spectrum of organizations and people toward action-oriented civic engagement (individual or group activities addressing issues of public concern.)

  • Oversee Citizen-Science projects as a gateway to civic engagement and scientific literacy
  • Lead Envirothon and seek/promote other conservation projects for area students
  • Maintain and expand SWCD’s joint volunteer program with the Clermont County Park District to expand our reach and impact in the community
