Eco-Cycle, one of the oldest and largest nonprofit recyclers in the country and a pioneer in the Zero Waste movement, seeks a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Environmental Educator to provide in-class presentations and field trips on a wide variety of environmental topics for PK-12th grade classrooms. Using established curricula, educators are expected to positively and professionally deliver high-quality educational experiences to students and staff, and to contribute daily to the operations and maintenance tasks needed to support the program at our Boulder headquarters.

Summary

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Eco-Cycle’s Bilingual (Spanish/English) Environmental Educator delivers engaging environmental education programs to students, educators, and school communities in either Spanish, English, or both. This position focuses on interactive, hands-on learning experiences that build environmental awareness, promote waste reduction and sustainability practices, and support school-based programs such as recycling, composting, and Zero  Waste initiatives.

The educator works in classrooms, on field trips, at assemblies, and in school common areas, collaborates with teachers and school staff, and supports program operations. The ideal candidate is passionate about environmental education, enjoys working with students of all ages, and is fluent in spoken and written Spanish and English.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high-quality environmental education lessons and presentations in Spanish and English for PK–12 students in classrooms, assembly settings, field trips, and outdoor settings
  • Adapt curricula and teaching approaches to support multilingual learners and culturally diverse school communities
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and school staff to support school-based sustainability and conservation programs
  • Provide outreach and education related to recycling, composting, waste reduction, and Zero Waste practices
  • Support student leadership and engagement through activities such as tabling, lunchroom monitoring, and special events
  • Track participation, collect data, and assist with basic reporting and program evaluation
  • Assist with the preparation of educational materials, flyers, emails, and other outreach resources in Spanish and English
  • Assist with program logistics, including organizing materials, maintaining equipment, and delivering supplies to schools
  • Support special projects and program initiatives as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES  

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Passion for environmental education, sustainability, and climate solutions
  • Experience teaching or facilitating programs for youth (classroom, field trips, camps, or informal education settings)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage students across a wide range of ages and learning styles
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment
  • Basic computer and writing skills (including Microsoft 365, Google, Canva)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Comfortable occasionally wearing costumes and using puppets
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to schools (mileage reimbursed)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle physical tasks such as carrying materials and setting up presentations

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with multilingual school communities
  • Knowledge of general environmental education topics
  • Experience developing or adapting curricula
  • Background in environmental studies, education, or a related field

Compensation Information

The position is for 40 hours per week, generally from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, mid-August through late May, with occasional work during evenings and weekends (ability to start part-time through May 2026, with full-time work beginning mid-August 2026). The position requires on-site work at schools and in the office. The compensation range is $22.00–$24.00/hr for a full-time equivalent (FTE), depending on experience and expertise, plus benefits. This position is unpaid leave from June to mid-August. 

Benefits include:

  • Paid time off, including six paid holidays, plus two paid Personal Days off per year; accrued vacation; accrued sick leave; and 2 weeks of full pay for maternity/paternity/adoption leave.
