Nurturing nature connection with young children and families on Chochenyo Ohlone Land in a 100% outdoor school. Berkeley Forest School (BFS) seeks teachers with strong naturalist / earthworking / ancestral skills, AND experience working with young children in a collaborative approach. We're seeking someone who values community-learning and works well on a team. We commune with the creeks, track deer together, share stories while sitting in the rain, and we're hoping that you do too!

Summary

Berkeley Forest School seeks an engaged, caring, collaborative, and energetic preschool teacher to join our team in January 2023. (Earlier start may be possible.)

Our ideal candidate has a genuine love for supporting young children and engaging authentically and respectfully, and personal values in nurturing their own relationship with the natural world, as well. Our teachers cultivate a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning community in relationship with the land and all weather conditions. Teachers support the children in growing their confidence in themselves and in their care for one another, as well as the creatures we share space with. We are looking for someone who can collaborate and work well on a team, can communicate respectfully, and practices active listening. Teachers need to be reliable, detail oriented, organized, and highly relational. A willingness to be outside in a variety of weather conditions and inspire others to become passionate about nature is a must.

Teachers cultivate and maintain a community learning environment that welcomes and supports the whole child, no matter their abilities and disabilities, while fostering connections between children and the natural world. This position provides support during the school day under the direction of the Director and Assitant Diretctor. Teachers assist in supervising children in outdoor settings, and indoor setting when necessary. Teachers also meet with their teaching team for bi-weekly meetings (1-hr) and monthly full Staff Meetings (2-hrs).

Compensation Information

Assistants start at $26 per hour, lead teachers start at $32 per hour or more, DOE. All positions are 25-30 hours per week. Full time may also be available. Compensation includes contributions towards healthcare, dental, and vision.
