Berkeley Forest School (BFS) seeks teachers with strong naturalist / earthworking / ancestral skills, AND experience working with young children in a collaborative approach. We're seeking someone who values community-learning and works well on a team. We commune with the creeks, track deer together, share stories while sitting in the rain, and we're hoping that you do too!

We are currently hiring for multiple positions including: 

  • Summer Camp Teacher / Naturalist (June through August 2022)
  • Preschool Teacher (Begins August 2022)
  • Kindergarten Teacher (Begins August 2022)

All positions are 25-30 hours per week. Full time positions also available.

Requirements include:

  • 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units completed or in progress
  • 2+ years experience teaching in early childhood education
  • Strong communication skills, for respectful written and spoken communication with parents and community members
  • Background Check / fingerprint clearance
  • Current TB test clearance
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be available to work the full schedule of the program
  • Must commit to the full summer and/or school year
  • Must have reliable transportation to reach various locations in the East Bay
  • Must be comfortable changing diapers and helping children learn to use a toilet
  • Strengths in storytelling, singing with children, improvisation, leadership, and living your social justice values

Compensation Information

All positions are 25-30 hours per week. Full time may also be available. 
Compensation is exceptionally competitive and includes contributions towards healthcare, dental, and vision. Assistants start at $26 per hour, lead teachers start at $32 per hour or more, DOE.
